For the past few years, Ithemba has supported the Hospice Wits Mandela Day Soccer Tournament held annually.
Hospice Wits provides care for patients with terminal illnesses and their families. To find out how you can help, visit the Hospice website.
Although they didn’t make it to the final round, Ithemba staff had a blast participating in the day.
Featured below is a photo of the staff that represented Ithemba on the day.
Mylene Baker provides support to the various letting offices and the COO. Amongst her various responsibilities, she makes sure that the printers are working, that the tenant gifts are ordered and ready for distribution with the newly signed leases, that our building managers have airtime and oversees our staff lunches on Fridays. Arranging a surprise baby shower for her, was quite the challenge! Catherine Hammond, the administrative assistant to the executive team, was up to the challenge. This past Friday, the female staff surprised Mylene with a baby shower in the Eyethu House boardroom.
Mylene did not expect a thing and was pleasantly surprised. Mylene is expecting a boy in August.
Below a picture of Mylene, Catherine and the co-conspirators.
Eyethu House, our exciting new development in Maboneng, was previously known as Du Barry Centre. It housed light industrial businesses, largely clothing manufacturers.
When we started the residential conversion, we thought a naming competition to choose a new name for the building would create some excitement amongst our staff and it did!
The competition was open to all Ithemba staff and the other shortlisted names were:
1. Ithemba House
3. Sechaba House
The shortlist was presented to our management staff to vote and Eyethu House got the most votes.
The cash prize of R1000 was won by public relations officer, Nhlakanipho Mdakane, featured below with his manager, Jerkinah.
Winner of naming competition!
Nhlakanipho subsequently resigned to pursue his studies, but we are sure he will always be proud to know that his nomination won.
At Ithemba Property we are serious about our work and give our all in our strive to make Ithemba a home away from home for our tenants.
Occasionally, we also take some time off to play!
On 20 May our building, letting and office staff took the day to relax, reconnect with colleagues and have some good old fun! The senior management put their heads together to come up with something different and exciting to do each year for the day dubbed “Fun day”.
This year the team had a blast at Monte Casino playing laser tag, ten pin bowling and a enjoying a scrumptious lunch after. Prizes were handed out for colleagues that got the highest scores in the games.
Below is a picture of the team on the day. We are delighted every body had an awesome time, they deserved it after our fantastic results in April!

Ithemba buildings are inspected on a regular basis by senior management to ensure that the Ithemba standard is maintained. In addition, building staff are requested to focus on a particular building management component to ensure it is in tip top shape. In April, the component was the lobby and security booth of each building.
The winning building for the Berea/Hillbrow portfolio was Hofman New Yorker. The prize for the winning building manager is a R500 shopping voucher. Jerkinah, the building manager of Hofman, generously used her prize to purchase a celebratory lunch for her staff to thank them for their contribution.
At Ithemba we are all about teamwork. Well done Hofman staff!
